A national research programme focusing on the responsible and sustainable use of the subsurface

In response to the growing demand for subsurface resources, and the risk of conflicts of use in the long term, the "Subsurface: a Common Good" Priority Research and Equipment Program (PEPR) aims to assess the future demands on France's subsurface in terms of resources and uses, establish the types of potential and study the environmental impact of uses, as well as the "politicisation" of the subsurface, and the legal aspects.

Funded through the France 2030 plan and co-managed by CNRS and BRGM, it has a budget worth €71.4 million in subsidies over 7 years and brings together more than 30 partner organisations and laboratories

The "Subsurface: a Common Good" PEPR is broken down into 3 scientific themes and groups together 13 targeted research projects, involving 8 projects and 5 regional project-research sites.
