The coordinators and members of targeted projects of the Subsurface, Common Good PEPR met on May 29 and 30, 2024 in Strasbourg to exchange on research program news, work tools, upcoming actions, and prepare the future call for projects whose launch is scheduled for September 2024.
11 June 2024

The program committee of the Subsurface, Common Good PEPR brings together PEPR co-directors and coordinators of the 13 PEPR targeted projects. It meets monthly by videoconference to take stock of research program activities.

A first in-person meeting was organized at the School and Observatory of Earth Sciences (EOST) to strengthen the collective and deepen exchanges on:

  • The needs of coordinators and targeted project members to properly start and continue their work, and questions or problems encountered (recruitments, data management plan, agreements, etc.).
  • The different PEPR committees.
  • The objectives and scope of the future call for expressions of interest aimed at evolving current training on subsurface resources and uses, and in multiple disciplinary universes.
  • The framing of the future PEPR Subsurface call for projects that will fund new projects on themes complementary to those of targeted projects.
  • The internal collaborative workspace and communication.
  • The subjects of future internal seminars to foster and strengthen links between PEPR targeted projects.

On this occasion, Jean Schmittbuhl (EOST, CNRS/University of Strasbourg) co-coordinator of the "Rhine Graben" project of PEPR Subsurface, presented some situational elements on deep geothermal energy in Alsace, recalling the concept and key ingredients, cases of success and failure, and the development of geothermal Lithium associated with deep geothermal energy.

This presentation was followed by a visit to the Rittershoffen geothermal power plant, an opportunity to learn more about this site and issues associated with deep geothermal energy: keys to understanding useful for different PEPR Subsurface projects that will work with the "Rhine Graben" project.
