The objectives of the InnovTech project?
This project tackles the main scientific challenges related to sustainable exploitation of mineral resources. Its objectives are therefore ambitious:
- Develop interdisciplinary approaches covering the entire processing chain excluding refining (sampling, characterization, mineral processing, extractive metallurgy).
- Contribute to the digital transformation of the extractive industry through the development of approaches using artificial intelligence.
- Unite the scientific community working in the field of mineral resource processing (geosciences, chemistry, process engineering, computer science) and strengthen links with those working on environmental assessment of processes.

Meeting of March 13, 2025: scientific momentum in action
On March 13, 2025, the InnovTech teams gathered at the Geological Society of France for an essential progress review. This day allowed for an assessment of advances and preparation of upcoming work.
Where does the project stand?
- Sampling and characterization: samples have been collected from European mining operators and divided into representative sub-samples for partners. This step is crucial for validating the relevance of results obtained.
- Promising results: work on scheelite flotation (tungsten-containing mineral) and its facilitated dissolution has already resulted in two scientific publications.
- Interdisciplinary approaches: from sample characterization to the use of artificial intelligence, teams are developing innovative methods to improve process performance while reducing their environmental impacts.
- A mobilized community: InnovTech brings together experts in geosciences, chemistry, process engineering and computer science, positioning French research among European leaders.
A major challenge for 2025: recruitment
InnovTech partners will open numerous doctoral and post-doctoral positions in 2025. These opportunities aim to strengthen teams and attract talented young researchers. Stay connected to news from the Subsurface, Common Good program to not miss these offers!
Toward responsible exploitation of mineral resources
The InnovTech project illustrates how scientific and technological innovation can enable responsible exploitation of mineral resources. At the end of the project, the advances made will pave the way for more efficient and environmentally friendly processes, thus strengthening France's position as a European leader in this field. These advances will contribute to sustainable and responsible exploitation of subsurface resources, essential for energy transition and sustainable development.
